CMMC: An Overview

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) verifies that Department of Defense (DoD) contractors have controls in place to safeguard their IT systems. Specifically, it protects any Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Federal Contract Information (FCI) that is stored on or transmitted by those systems. CMMC ensures that all federal contractors are held to an established standard of cybersecurity capability, readiness, and sophistication so they can adapt and defend against evolving cyberthreats.

Important Note: CMMC is not a replacement for NIST 800-171 and the two are not interchangeable. While both NIST 800-171 and CMMC primarily focus on CUI, NIST 800-171 also addresses 63 Non-Federal Organization (NFO) controls. So CMMC certification will not ensure NIST compliance.

Blackpoint LogIC’s logging architecture bolsters your cybersecurity posture by supporting real-time collection of file integrity monitoring (FIM) events, device logs, and any other application or system that supports syslog. While LogIC collects key data to assist users in understanding where they are covered in terms of compliance, users must consult with a regulatory compliance authority and/or compliance auditor to guide them through the official assessment.
