From Tool Sprawl to Unified Security: How BECA Streamlined Compliance with Blackpoint’s LogIC

Challenge: Managing Security Complexity & Compliance at Scale

BECA, a leading Managed Services Provider (MSP), faced a growing challenge—ensuring consistent security and compliance across its diverse client base while managing an ever-expanding set of security tools. Tool sprawl and decentralized log management made it difficult for BECA’s team to efficiently manage compliance for frameworks like HIPAA, PCI DSS, and SEC Rule 17a-4.

“We didn’t have a single solution,” BECA CEO Jim Brittain recalled. “Every time a client had a new compliance requirement we were scrambling to figure out what to deploy. It wasn’t sustainable.”

According to Sean Barron, BECA’s SVP of Services, they were searching for an MDR solution that could not only enhance security but also integrate seamlessly with Microsoft 365, an area where many vendors were falling short. “We were looking for a really good MDR solution,” Sean explained. “After assessing many of the MDR solutions on the market, Blackpoint’s MDR plus LogIC provided an integrated solution that allowed us to eliminate tool sprawl and deliver concise, relevant insights to our clients.”

Solution: Blackpoint‘s LogIC for Compliance, Efficiency, and Visibility

Blackpoint’s LogIC provided BECA with a unified logging and compliance solution that seamlessly integrates with its existing security infrastructure. By leveraging LogIC, BECA was able to:

  • Eliminate redundant security tools and reduce operational overhead.
  • Standardize compliance reporting across multiple frameworks with automated mapping.
  • Gain deeper visibility into security events, even in areas outside of LogIC’s direct monitoring scope.
  • Reduce the time BECA’s team spends on compiling compliance reports and preparing for audits by 50%.

Starting the Journey: Tackling Tool Sprawl Head-On

Before implementing LogIC, BECA’s approach to log management was decentralized and labor-intensive. “It was tool sprawl at its worst,” Jim recalled. “The complex setup of syslog servers and the lack of a standardized approach slowed us down. Every new client or audit felt like we were reinventing the wheel.”

LogIC changed that. With its seamless integration into Blackpoint’s MDR platform, BECA could deploy the solution across their client base with minimal effort. “Consolidation is the name of the game,” Jim said. “LogIC allowed us to push out a centralized solution without the heavy lift. That’s huge for us.”

Turning Compliance Data into Action

One of the most immediate benefits BECA saw was the quality of data and insights they could deliver to their clients. With LogIC, BECA wasn’t just collecting data; they were using it to drive meaningful conversations.

“We had a couple of client meetings last week where, on the call, they specifically asked, ‘Could we get that report again?’” Jim shared. For him, this kind of engagement is a sign of success. “One telltale sign that it’s probably not all that valuable is when clients don’t ask questions about it or never request it again. When clients repeatedly ask for reports, it generally means they are doing something good with them.”

These reports are more than just routine paperwork. They help BECA’s clients uncover opportunities, address vulnerabilities, and improve their security posture. “The insights from LogIC are a jumping-off point,” Jim said. “They give our clients tangible data that leads to better decision-making.”

Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Audit Readiness

For Jim, one of the biggest advantages of LogIC is its ability to enhance the operational maturity of both BECA and its clients. “Just putting solutions like LogIC in there and having that mapping—it automatically increases the operational maturity that you can have with the customer,” he explained.

LogIC’s automated mapping of compliance frameworks, including HIPAA, PCI DSS, and SEC Rule 17a-4, has been instrumental in reducing manual reporting efforts. BECA’s team now has a clear view of where clients stand with regulatory requirements and can address gaps quickly. “We know exactly what is required for each client,” Jim added. “The reports help us prove that we’re keeping them in a good spot.”

This newfound efficiency has also had a direct impact on BECA’s bottom line. “We’ve been able to cut down on the time and effort spent on audits and reporting, which is a win in my book,” Jim said. “Anything that gets us to an answer faster is valuable.”

Scaling Security and Compliance with the Right Partner

Jim describes Blackpoint Cyber as more than a vendor. They are a strategic partner that shares BECA’s vision for scalable, streamlined solutions. “When you’re mature enough to find a partner and a solution that can be ubiquitous, that solves a particular thing and can be pushed out everywhere, that’s the pinnacle. That’s where everybody wants to be,” Jim said.

With LogIC embedded into BECA’s service offering, they’ve achieved that level of maturity. The ease of deployment, combined with actionable insights and streamlined compliance management, has set them apart from competitors. “We used to deal with complex, manual log aggregation. With LogIC, that’s virtually eliminated,” Jim explained. “We now have a scalable solution that meets our clients’ needs without the overhead.”

Going Above and Beyond in Addressing Security Threats

One of the unexpected benefits BECA experienced was Blackpoint’s proactive approach to security threats. Sean recounted a recent incident where Blackpoint’s team alerted them to suspicious activity in a third-party financial application used by one of their clients despite not being obligated to monitor that application.

“Blackpoint picked up the phone and called us,” Sean said. “They told us, ‘Hey, we saw that this application was deployed at one of your customers. We’re hearing there’s bad actor activity happening based on its default configuration. You need to investigate it.’ That’s the kind of partnership we value.

“While attending Right of Boom, I spoke to someone who is still using Huntress,” Sean continued. “They said their main complaint with Huntress was that they weren’t picking up the phone and calling them. And in this case, Blackpoint, even though they’re not required to monitor this application, picked up the phone and provided a report so that we could follow up with the customer and investigate.”

A Partnership That Delivers Simplicity and Growth

For BECA, LogIC isn’t just a tool for meeting compliance mandates—it’s a way to empower clients and foster trust. “When clients see that we can deliver detailed reports and answer their compliance questions on the spot, it builds confidence,” Jim said. “It’s not just about checking a box; it’s about showing them we’re invested in their long-term success.”

“The communication with Blackpoint is exceptionally good,” Sean added. “Do we enjoy getting a call at 1:00 am? No, we don’t. But we’re glad that we got it because it gives us an opportunity to be proactive and make sure that it isn’t a bigger problem than what is being seen.”

As BECA continues to grow, Jim sees even more potential for their partnership with Blackpoint. “The relationship runs deep,” he said. “Blackpoint is a crown jewel of a partner, and I couldn’t be happier. We’re excited to keep building on this success.”
